Poole Hotels
A busy port since the 12th-century, Poole is the largest town in Dorset, on the south coast of England. Its prosperity as a port reached a highpoint in the 18th-century and it boasted a proud wartime record as one of the departure points for the D-Day landings. Luftwaffe bombing and post-war decline saw it go through difficult times in the 1950s and 60s, but it is now once again a popular tourist resort, with many of its most notable buildings preserved within a 15-acre Conservation Area.
Poole is a cross-Channel port for passengers and freight with up to seven sailings a day in the summer season. There are ferry services to Cherbourg, Guernsey, Jersey and St. Malo, Brittany.
