La Bodega: Visit the lesser known, unspoiled, beauty of Tenerife

Tenerife has always been a popular tourist destination for my travellers seeking beaches, the sun and an enjoyable week away. However, what many people do not know is what lies beyond the stereotypical travel destinations.

La Bodega, situated in the old Spanish/Canarian town of San Miguel, offers visitors a truly magical experience. You’ll take in an authentic, yet relaxing, South Tenerife self catering experience between the mountains and the sea. If you’re looking for a location with easy access to other parts of the island, yet one that is secluded from the busy tourist areas, then this is perfect for you.

Each of the cottages at La Bodega are styled differently, offering visitors the choice between potential surroundings, and the ability to choose the perfect setting for their trip.

Once visiting La Bodega, many people have always seen the picturesque cottages as a home away from home, and it’s not hard to see why. The area is flush with wildlife, gardens, authentic architecture, and stunning scenery.

What can you do near the cottages?

As mentioned, many visitors to La Bodega take the opportunity to explore other parts of the island. The location means that you’re only 15 minutes from Golf Del Sur and 25 minutes to Los Cristianos. As an icing on the cake, you can get to the top of Teide for astounding views of the island.

Car hire can be arranged, but if you prefer, there are loads of bike tracks and walking paths to ensure you can go on adventures far and wide if you wish!

What’s so special about San Miguel?

San Miguel gets its name from the chapel, that was built by the Spanish settlers of the area in honour of San Miguel Archangel in 1665. Since then, the town has grown, and the parish church now stands where the chapel once did. It is also the area’s municipality.

There’s certainly no shortage of things to do…

There are traditional markets, local fishing villages, historic town centres, and unspoilt countryside ideal for hiking and taking a few selfies. Why not explore some of the area’s museums and get an idea of the island’s history, perhaps visiting a 14th century mummified Guanche (aboriginal person of the island) is something a bit different.

If you’d rather do some more strenuous outdoor activities, you’ll not be stuck for ideas. There’s biking, windsurfing, and paragliding. Kitesurfing, Scuba diving and much much more. Tenerife’s also home to the largest water park in Europe, Siam Park, a 25-minute drive away from La Bodega. Golf and Tennis are also available in San Miguel de Abona and if you just want a refreshing cool down – there’s always a swim in the sea.

Not only that, but there are a plentiful number of festivals that run throughout the course of the year! So, whenever you visit San Miguel de Abona, you will not be stuck for choice.

Which Tenerife Self Catering Cottage Should You Choose?

There are four cottages at La Bodega, each offering a unique Tenerife self catering experience. You may wish to consider each of these based on who you’ll be travelling with as some might be better suited than others.
